1. Who we are
Find Me Job ("we", "us", "the site") operates the website at findmejob.ca — a free noticeboard where people post small local jobs and other people answer them. We are an independent project based in Ontario, Canada, and we act as the data controller for the information described below.
You can reach us at any time through our contact form, which is the fastest route to a real person for privacy questions, data requests, or complaints.
2. The short version
- There are no user accounts, so we don't collect names, passwords, or profiles.
- What you type into a job post is published publicly — that's the point of it.
- Job posts are stored on our servers and shown to everyone, including the contact details you put in them.
- We keep a one-way hash of your IP address when you post, to limit spam. We do not keep the address itself.
- We use Google AdSense, which may set cookies to measure and personalise ads.
- We don't sell or rent your personal information. We never handle payments.
3. Information we collect
3.1 Information you give us deliberately
Job post content. When you create a listing you supply a title, category, description, budget, location, contact details, and an optional urgency flag. Understand clearly that all of this is intended for publication, including the contact details — that is how people reach you. A listing has to carry a Canadian phone number, so only enter a number you are comfortable making public, and give a neighbourhood rather than a full street address.
Job posts are stored in a database on our hosting provider's infrastructure and served to every visitor to the site, as well as to search engines that index it. There is no private mode and no way to post anonymously while still being contactable: the contact details you enter are displayed on the listing. A listing stops being shown 45 days after it is posted, and the record is deleted 45 days after that.
You can delete your own listing at any time, without asking us and without an account: the browser you posted from shows a delete button on the listing, and posting also hands you a private link that does the same from anywhere else. Deleting erases the record, including the contact details on it, rather than hiding it. You can still ask us to remove a listing through the contact form if you no longer have either. Note that once a listing has been public we cannot recall copies other people have already seen, saved, or cached.
Anti-spam data attached to a post. When you submit a listing we store a salted one-way hash of your IP address alongside it. The hash lets us count recent posts from the same source and block flooding; it cannot be reversed to recover the address, and we do not store the address itself. We also store the result of our automated spam checks, which is why a post may be held for a person to review before it appears. Both are kept for the life of the listing and deleted with it.
Messages you send us. If you use the contact form we receive your name, your email address, and your message. This is processed by our hosting provider's form service (see section 5) so that we can reply, act on a report, or answer a question. We keep correspondence only as long as needed for that purpose, and no longer than 24 months.
3.2 Information collected automatically
Server and security logs. Our hosting provider records standard technical information when you load a page: IP address, timestamp, requested URL, referring page, and browser user-agent. This is used to serve the site, keep it available, and defend against abuse.
Local storage. We use your browser's local storage — not cookies — for two things: remembering your cookie-consent choice, so we don't ask on every page, and remembering the listings you have posted from that browser, so it can offer you a delete button on them. Neither entry identifies you to us. The listing keys are only ever sent back to us to delete the listing they belong to, and clearing them costs you nothing except the delete button, which the private link we gave you at posting time restores.
Advertising and cookies. Described in section 4.
3.3 What we never ask for
We do not ask for and do not want: payment card numbers, bank account details, social insurance or social security numbers, government ID documents, or passwords. There is no payment form and no login anywhere on this site. Anyone requesting these while claiming to be Find Me Job is committing fraud — please report it and see our safety guide.
4. Advertising, Google AdSense, and cookies
This site is free to use and is funded by advertising. To do that we work with third-party advertising partners, principally Google.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info, or via the NAI opt-out tool and YourAdChoices Canada.
- Google's own explanation of how it uses data from sites that use its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Your choice on this site. On your first visit you'll see a cookie notice. If you accept, advertising and measurement cookies may be set. If you reject non-essential cookies, we signal to Google that advertising should be non-personalised — you'll still see ads, but they won't be tailored using advertising cookies. You can change your decision at any time using the Cookie preferences link in the footer of every page. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, consent is handled through a Google-certified consent management platform.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Doing so will not stop you using the site — nothing here depends on cookies to function.
5. Service providers we rely on

These providers process data on servers that may be outside your country, including in the United States. Where personal data of EEA or UK residents is transferred, our providers rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an equivalent approved mechanism.
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We may disclose information where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to investigate fraud, abuse, or a threat to someone's safety.
6. Legal bases for processing
If you are in the EEA or the UK, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR:
- Consent — for advertising and measurement cookies. You may withdraw it at any time via Cookie preferences.
- Legitimate interests — for keeping the site secure and available, and for responding to reports of abuse.
- Performance of a service you requested — for publishing a job post you submit, and for replying to a message you send us.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its processing, to withdraw consent, to receive a portable copy, and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
Because we operate without accounts and hold very little, a request is usually simple to handle. To make one, write to us through the contact form. We respond within 30 days. Residents of the EEA or UK may also complain to their national data protection authority; residents of Canada may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
California residents: we do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising in exchange for money. You may still exercise the access, deletion, and correction rights described above.
8. Data retention
A listing you delete yourself is erased at that point. Otherwise, job posts are shown for 45 days from posting, then hidden, then deleted 45 days after that — along with the hashed IP address and spam-check result attached to them. A post we remove on request, or take down for breaching our terms, is deleted at that point. Contact-form correspondence is kept for up to 24 months. Hosting logs are retained on our provider's standard schedule, typically no more than 30 days. Advertising cookies expire according to Google's own retention periods, described in Google's policies linked above.
9. Children
This site is not directed to children and is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, tell us and we will delete it.
10. Security
The site is served over HTTPS and we keep the amount of personal data we hold deliberately small — the most effective protection available to a project this size. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Remember that anything you put in a job post is public by design.
11. External links
Listings and pages may link to sites we don't control. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices — check their own policies before sharing anything with them.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes — such as beginning to store job posts on our servers, or adding a new advertising partner — will be announced on the site itself. Continuing to use Find Me Job after a change means you accept the updated policy.
